  • Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of health conditions. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of energy, or Qi, and promote healing. It is based on the idea that the body has a system of channels or meridians through which Qi flows, and that disruptions or imbalances in this flow can lead to health problems. By stimulating specific points on the body with needles, acupuncture aims to restore balance and promote healing. Dr. Golding uses a variety of acupuncture methods heavily based on Japanese Methods including those of Kiiko Matsumoto.

  • Dr. Golding is a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine which is a professional designation that is awarded by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in the United States. The Dipl. OM designation indicates that an individual has met the highest standards of education and clinical training in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, and has demonstrated their competence and proficiency in the use and understanding of Chinese Herbal Medicine. Chinese herbal medicine is a traditional form of medicine that has been used in China for thousands of years. It involves the use of natural plant-based materials, including roots, bark, flowers, and leaves, as well as some animal and mineral substances, to treat a wide range of health conditions.

  • Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a form of electrotherapy that uses low-level electrical currents to stimulate the body's cells and tissues. The electrical currents used in FSM are extremely low, typically in the range of millionths of an ampere (microcurrents). FSM is often used to treat pain and inflammation, as well as to promote healing of injuries and tissue damage. It may also be used to help improve nerve function, reduce scar tissue formation, and promote overall wellness. During an FSM treatment, electrodes are placed on the skin at specific points on the body, and a series of frequencies are applied to the affected area. These frequencies are believed to help stimulate the body's natural healing processes and promote tissue repair and regeneration.

  • Moxibustion is a Classical Chinese medicine therapy that involves burning dried mugwort, a type of herb, near the skin at specific acupuncture points on the body. The heat generated by the burning herb is believed to stimulate circulation and promote healing. There are two main types of moxibustion: direct and indirect. In direct moxibustion, a small cone-shaped amount of moxa is placed directly on the skin and burned. In indirect moxibustion, the moxa is formed into a stick or cigar-shaped roll and burned near the skin, held by an acupuncture needle, ginger, or other material. Moxibustion is often used to treat a variety of health conditions, including chronic pain, digestive disorders, respiratory conditions, and menstrual issues. It may also be used to support overall health and well-being.

  • A form of classical Chinese massage that involves various manual techniques such as pressing, rubbing, kneading, and stretching to stimulate the body's acupoints, muscles, and energy channels (meridians). It is often used in conjunction with other forms of Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine to treat a wide range of health conditions and promote overall health and wellness. Tui na is believed to work by balancing the body's qi (vital energy) and blood flow, promoting relaxation, and relieving pain and tension. It may be used to treat musculoskeletal disorders, such as back pain and sports injuries, as well as digestive disorders, respiratory conditions, and stress-related conditions, among others.

  • Gua sha is a classical Chinese therapy that involves using a scraping tool, such as a flat piece of jade or bone, to rub the skin in a firm, sweeping motion to promote blood flow and release tension in the muscles and fascia. During a gua sha session, the practitioner applies a lubricant, such as oil or lotion, to the skin, and then uses the scraping tool to apply pressure and drag it along the skin in a specific pattern or direction. The pressure and friction of the scraping motion are believed to stimulate the body's natural healing processes, promote circulation, and help to relieve pain and tension. Gua sha is often used to treat a variety of conditions, such as neck pain, headaches, back pain, and respiratory issues. It may also be used to support overall health and well-being.

  • Fire cupping is a classical Chinese therapy that involves placing glass or silicone cups on the skin and using heat to create a vacuum that pulls the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. This technique is believed to promote blood flow, relieve muscle tension, and support the body's natural healing processes. During a fire cupping session, a small amount of flammable substance, such as alcohol, is placed in the cup and set on fire. The cup is then quickly placed on the skin, and as the air inside the cup cools, a vacuum is created that pulls the skin and underlying tissue up into the cup. The cups are left in place for several minutes, and may be moved to other areas of the body as needed. Fire cupping is often used to treat a variety of conditions, such as back pain, respiratory issues, and digestive disorders. It may also be used to support overall health and well-being.

  • Qi Gong (also spelled Qigong) is a classical Chinese practice that involves a combination of physical movements, breathing techniques, and meditation to cultivate and balance the body's vital energy, or Qi. Qi Gong is based on the principles of Chinese medicine and aims to promote physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. The practice involves slow, gentle movements, often accompanied by deep breathing and visualization techniques. These movements and techniques are designed to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve circulation and flexibility. There are many different styles of Qi Gong, each with its own unique movements and focuses. Some styles are focused on improving specific aspects of health, such as cardiovascular health or mental clarity, while others are designed for spiritual development. Research suggests that Qi Gong may have a number of health benefits, including improving balance and coordination, reducing stress and anxiety, improving immune function, and reducing chronic pain

  • Heart rate variability (HRV) testing is a non-invasive method of measuring the variations in time intervals between successive heartbeats. It is based on the fact that the interval between heartbeats is not perfectly regular, and that there is natural variation in these intervals, known as HRV. HRV testing involves using a device, such as a heart rate monitor or electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, to measure the time intervals between successive heartbeats. These intervals are then analyzed to provide information about the body's autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity, which controls many automatic functions in the body, including heart rate, breathing, and digestion. The ANS has two main branches, the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The SNS is responsible for the "fight or flight" response, while the PNS is responsible for the "rest and digest" response. HRV testing can provide information about the balance between these two branches of the ANS, which can provide insights into overall health and well-being.

  • AcuGraph is a computerized system that works by measuring the electrical conductivity of the acupuncture points on a patient's skin. The system uses a small probe to touch each acupuncture point and measure its conductivity, which is then displayed as a graph on a computer screen. The graph shows the relative energy levels of each acupuncture point, providing a visual representation of the patient's energy flow. The information provided by AcuGraph can be used to identify patterns of energy imbalance in the body and guide the selection of acupuncture points and treatment techniques. The system can also be used to track changes in energy levels over time, allowing practitioners to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent

In conjunction with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Dr. Golding uses machines that generates specific frequencies that actually match the frequency of your body to increase the cellular metabolism in the specific targeted tissue.

When you match the tissue’s frequency or vibration, you can create a cascade of healing mechanisms by increasing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the cells.

Chinese Medicine Benefits

DEPRESSION

A 1998 study at the University of Arizona looked at using acupuncture to treat major depression(1), using a double-blind, randomized, control trial. When measured against a control group who received a placebo treatment, the acupuncture group did remarkably well. In fact at the end of the study, 64% of the participants were judged to be in full remission of their symptoms.

CHRONIC PAIN

Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal, headache, and osteoarthritis pain. Treatment effects of acupuncture persist over time and cannot be explained solely in terms of placebo effects. Referral for a course of acupuncture treatment is a reasonable option for a patient with chronic pain.

NERVE PAIN

Studies show that acupuncture is an effective treatment for peripheral neuropathy, with fewer side effects than medications.  Combined with FSM (frequency Specific Microcurrent), it is a game changer.  Patients have seen vast improvements in the ability to manage nerve pain and deal with neurological issues.

POST-OPERATIVE SUPPORT

Acupuncture is a low-risk method that has the potential to enhance perioperative analgesia, decrease opioid requirement, and reduce unwanted side effects of anesthesia, surgery, and opioid administration such as nausea/vomiting.  Clinically we have seen remarkable improvements in healing when used in combination with Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM). After six weeks, working with scar tissue that is blocking current energy flow in the body is highly productive in recreating proper movement and alignment.

FAQs

How often will I need to come in for acupuncture before I see results?

Each case is unique, however, many of our patients come in weekly, even bi-weekly initially. Everyone responds to treatment differently, so your results will depend on your particular situation. The herbal medicine and treatments work to alter the underlying root, rather than mask a symptom, hence it often takes time for the body to respond.  There are certain issues that can be addressed in a visit or two; other cases might require more treatments until your goal is met. Often, patients will notice relief from a specific symptom immediately, though we may need more time to work on the underlying root.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles have smooth points and are hair-thin. These are not like needles used for injections or drawing blood samples. They are inserted gently and usually only a few centimeters at most. While each person has a unique experience of acupuncture, most feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted and that sensation dissipates. Once the needles are in place, most of our patients tell us that they experience a feeling of relaxation and well-being that lasts for many hours after the treatment.
